Carrie Murray Environmental Education Center

Baltimore, MD

Named in memory of the mother of Baltimore Orioles star baseball player Eddie Murray, this complex of buildings provides environmental education experiences for City school children and functions as the year-round headquarters for Baltimore's Outward Bound Programs.

The center exemplifies sustainable building design by incorporating organic, maintainable, and energy-efficient materials and exposed, heavy wood timber structure. The large, central, chimney design is unique yet serves as a strong and efficient heat source. Daylighting and cross ventilation were utilized throughout the facility.
