The Family Place

Baltimore, MD

Multiple award winner, the 12,000-sf community support center was carved from a former 19th-century police station in Baltimoreís historic "middle east" neighborhood. The facility was designed to house family counseling services, a health suite, adult education classes, kitchen and dining for children and parents, and a large meeting room for community use.

The carriage house was converted for use by the nationally recognized Head Start program. Child development play areas and offices moved into a rear addition formerly containing jail cells. Two vacant lots were enclosed for outdoor play areas, and a new landscaped courtyard entrance provided for handicapped accessibility.
